Research And Development Manager – Refrigeration Industries & Storage and Oil Services Co. (K.S.C.)
Main Purpose of Job
Contribute in formulating the company’s overall strategy, lead the departments in generating and executing new design and product development plans.
Direct and manage the research and development activities to promote Company Business Line into a world class provider of AC & Refrigeration products.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Create Design drawings based on sound engineering practice, material properties knowledge and understanding of available production techniques.
2. Direct and implement research and development operations for existing products through existing design enhancement and modifications, in coordination with relevant departments, and product efficiency improvement initiatives, and for factory mass production concept, and continually encourage the introduction of new technologies and products that will increase the efficiency of the manufacturing operations and continuously devise and improve design methods to stay ahead of the competition.
3. Progressively develop Product Engineering initiatives to ensure cost reduction through standardization, value engineering and cost-effective designs.
4. Progressively develop and manage the Design Engineering Laboratory activities and other product testing facilities by establishing and implementing systems and processes and ensure calibration of all instruments and that all products are running according to international norms.
5. Conceptualize, design and develop new series of unitary & applied products.
6. Ensure that relevant international product certifications are continually maintained and ensure that our products meet the certification requirements and coordinate needed approval and certifications along with all required tests for new products.
7. Propose new enhanced, higher efficiency and energy saving systems and assign testing procedures in accordance with international standards.
8. Conduct Market study and analysis along with procurement team to collaborate with vendors and suppliers for cost efficient sourcing of parts and component for these units.
9. Plan, develop, monitor and control the budget and budget-awareness within the department to ensure objectives are met within agreed limits, and executing the department policies and plans, scheduling and executing the unit development works. This also requires highest degree of coordination with Manufacturing Director.
10. Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in the Product Research & Development Dept and ensure performance levels are reached and improved.
11. Directing the Senior Engineers, Engineers & designers and guide them in the process of product development, modification, enhancement, value engineering, calculations, BOM construction, prototyping and other related activities.
12. Source graduate Engineers to progressively develop for back up and senior staff positions and evaluate incumbent staff for ongoing development, reallocation and or replacement.
13. Continually encourage the introduction of new technologies and products that will increase the efficiency of the manufacturing operations and continuously devise and improve design methods to stay ahead of the competition.
14. Contribute in executing management and business decisions by providing:
– Product related data, catalogue data and certification data
– Product costs, comparative and competitive analysis
– New technology proposals
– Value engineering recommendations
– Alternative technical solutions
– Technical data submittals
– Consolidated lists of standard and optional product features
15. Take part in the daily and scheduled meetings to monitor progress of action plans, facilitate execution and resolve critical issues and escalated problems with the company and outside and to propose actions and decisions for production and maintenance findings
16. Initiate evaluation and training programs for all personnel in order to meet Company business objectives and broaden individual and company skills base for succession planning and career development.
17. Encourage and promote effective communication and interaction at all levels across all business lines to ensure all personnel are aware of departmental and Company objectives and possible constraints and supply advance information on all forthcoming projected and identified resource requirements.
18. Closely monitor Customer Satisfaction levels by constantly liaising with corporate level and high end customers, obtaining feedback from incoming product/service related customer complaints & accordingly devising unique customer enhancement strategies to induce effective corrective/preventive actions.
19. Perform other duties as assigned.
